The Indian Express on Friday reported that the government has declared the sale of meat and dairy products to be banned, citing sources.
The government had last year banned the sale and consumption of meat in the country.
In a statement on Friday, the Food and Consumer Affairs Ministry had said that the sale or purchase of beef, pork, poultry, dairy products or any other meat product is banned and that the ministry will issue notification on the ban.
“The decision to ban the sale, purchase and consumption or import of beef and pork was taken in the backdrop of the growing incidence of meat-related diseases and death,” the statement said.
The ministry has also directed the departments of agriculture, environment, environment-related and other relevant departments to submit a detailed report on the new measures to be implemented.
The government had also asked the central government to provide funds to states and Union territories for implementation of the new regulation.
